High School, Then: When a Poet is a Young Man

When a Poet is a Young Man

When a poet is a young man
He is lame and broken
He has no experience, no deep thought
His shallow impressions fade from memory

When a poet is a young man
He is vibrant and fresh
His mind opens to the wondrous world
He puts conventions aside

When a poet is a young man
He is simple and monotonous
His simple verse and lame limerick
His exhortations cannot excite a birck

When a poet is a young man
He is free to dream
His words exhude the simplicity of life
His abstract lines borne full of ideas

When a poet is a young man
He is inexperienced and unwise
His thoughts are disorganized
He has no outlook, no deep insight in life

When a poet is a young man
His passage through life is a journey worth noting
His traversals endure suffering
His pain becomes ours through writing

When a poet is a young man
He knows none, sees nothing, and writes poor
When a poet is a young man
He knows none, sees wonders, and just writes.
